Building bike lanes in less time for less money

The Railpath Expansion process will immediately speed up for 2017 thanks to the just announced changes to the EA process for cycling infrastructure.

  1. That’s good news. So – has anyone suggested the city build the railpath out of something other than asphalt? I’m thinking of a material that has good drainage but is also smooth. I say this because anyone who walks/rides the railpath knows they are deadly ice slicks long the low points of the path when ever there is a thaw and freeze. If there was good drainage the water would go down into the earth rather than pooling on top of the asphalt.
    Not to mention asphalt is a tar sands product that leaches poison into the soil.
    I’m thinking some kind of concrete with a high drainage – or materials I may not have heard of yet.
